In this regard, I wish to report to the House that during the short recess, two Bills became due for First Reading. The first Bill is the Excise Duty (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bill No.7 of 2025), which is sponsored by the Leader of the Majority Party. The Bill was published on 6th March 2025 and seeks to amend the Excise Duty Act, CAP 472, by removing the excise duty imposed on imported fully assembled electric transformers. You may recall that the said Excise Duty was introduced through the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, with the aim of supporting local assemblers.
