"content": "sector. Fertiliser is very important. In the Budget Policy Statement (BPS), which we passed, agriculture is regarded as the cornerstone of our economic growth projection. Therefore, we must do everything possible as a country to ensure that we have home-grown solutions for our fertiliser needs. I want to thank the Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr Mutunga, for his input. I emphasise that going forward, we have to do research in agriculture. The research will have to involve understanding the different types of soils in each region and seeing which type of fertiliser is suitable for the region to maximise agricultural production. The economy is expected to grow by about 5.3 per cent this coming financial year, and agriculture will form the cornerstone of that growth. Therefore, we cannot take chances. So, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development should do everything possible within their means and ability to ensure that we have resources and provide the legislative environment for investors who are interested in the fertiliser sector to come on board. Hon. Temporary Speaker, I beg to reply."
