"content": " Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker, for this opportunity to eulogise Prof Ngugi. He was my lecturer at the University of Nairobi where I took literature. Prof Ngugi, Okot p’Bitek and Micere Mugo were our lecturers whom we really admired. This is because of the depth of their knowledge, artistic world and the way their works mirrored the world. Prof Ngugi was a politician, in as much as he was a great writer. His works show you that he was a politician. He talked about poor governance and promoted the rights of human beings. He also challenged the coming of the white man. In his book, The River Between there is a scene where a character says, “There shall come a people with clothes like butterflies”. Those were the white people who came to colonise. Ngugi wa Thiong’o talked a lot about the The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly.
