Speaker, pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 44(2) (c), I request for a statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture regarding sponsorship and nurturing of a top amateur golfer in Kenya, Mr Michael Karanga. Mr Michael Karanga is a 30-year-old amateur golfer who hails from Ndumberi Ward in Kiambu Constituency. He has been playing golf for the past 10 years. Over this period, Mr. Karanga has played in international games and performed exceptionally well, earning the name of ‘Golfer of the Year’ for two years in a row. Last year, he emerged top golfer during the Ghana Opens in Accra.
