"content": " Hon. Temporary Chairman, the mandate of the National Land Commission (NLC) is to provide compensation for acquired public land. I chair a committee where so many water projects are donor-funded. Under the donor-funded projects, the Government of Kenya is supposed to provide the counterpart money for land compensation. The Government transfers the money to the NLC, but it takes them almost one year to compensate the beneficiaries. If the government transfers Ksh5 billion or Ksh10 billion, what is the interest accrued from that money for one year, and where does it go? It is an issue we need to investigate because the Commission does it deliberately. The NLC keeps that money for that period so that they benefit from the interest accrued."
