They would say nothing while people suffered because they did not want to meet the same fate that Abu Somo met. It is only when I was elected to this Parliament, maybe, because I was young or the times had changed, that I confronted the Government. I told them that we did not want 50 per cent security, or 70 per cent or even 90 per cent security. If they could not give us 100 per cent security, they should leave us to govern ourselves. Then we were issued with guns in every village through the Kenya Police Reserve and we were able to contain the security situation in Lamu. Now, investors want to come to Lamu to put up a second port, a pipeline and resort hotels because security has been restored."
