Out of the 9.5 million school going children, about 95,000 have various disabilities. Of these, only 45,000 are receiving some form of educational instruction in special education programmes and in regular schools. However, it is known that children with disabilities join regular schools without assessment and identification due to ignorance and attitudes of parents."
