"content": "It is necessary to bring criminal offences committed during the elections to a closure. I hear hon. Members say that the situation is so bad that we have no faith in ourselves or in any systems, so let us do nothing about it. To say that we go to The Hague, it means only those responsible for international crimes will be tried, if at all. It means the person who raped, murdered or destroyed the property of another will walk scotfree. Is that what we want? Is that the message we are selling to the thousands who are languishing, their lives having been destroyed? Whoever committed violence on another Kenyan, whether an official of Government or an ordinary citizen, are we saying that we do not want a closure to this matter? Are we saying we no longer want the rule of law? I am saddened that we are not taking enough time to deeply appreciate and understand this process."
