"content": " Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, thank you for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this very timely Motion. Tea farmers are some of the most miserable farmers in this country. They are miserable, not because they do not work hard; in fact, they are among the most hardworking groups in the country. The process of growing and transporting tea to the factory requires a lot of effort; again, these farmers live in some of the most difficult conditions. They live in very hard conditions in the mountainous and hilly areas, which are very cold and have rains most of the time. So, it is a very difficult lifestyle. But what do they get for all that work? Look at the cost of production, especially now that the fertiliser price has become astronomical? They get nothing. That is why I want to agree with the speaker who spoke before me, and who said that it is next to impossible for tea farmers to educate their children. When this country was in problems in 1990s, when it was earning very little foreign exchange, it was the tea farmers who were supporting the economy of this country. Most of the foreign exchange was from tea"
