    "content": "The country is currently facing very serious food shortage, especially of maize which is the main staple food. Approximately 10 million people are now food insecure and a large proportion of them will have to rely on famine relief. This problem has been compounded by a total crop failure in the eastern part of our country in the last two months. The current food situation is one of the severest in the last ten years. This situation is attributed to a combination of factors that include poor long and short rains in 2008; unprecedented high food and fuel prices; effects of the post-election violence early last year and high cost of farm inputs.
