"content": "Thank you, Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker. The matter we are discussing today is of grave concern. Millions of Kenyans will not be in a position to enjoy this 3988 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES December 10, 2008 year's Jamhuri Day, Christmas Day or the New Year celebrations. This is because they cannot afford to buy the basic foodstuff. We are experiencing this problem mainly because of bad policies which affect the ordinary people. The problem we face, at least, the way I see it, is a result of the previous Parliament which interfered with the prices for basic foods. The Government must be serious and form a committee that would be charged with the responsibility to monitor food security in the country. If we do not do that, the ordinary man and woman will be faced with difficult times. As a country, we must look at our own people. We must feed our people and not spend most of our time politicking for the sake of it. I want to thank the hon. Member for Mathira for having brought this Motion. I support it because I know that in my own constituency, in an area like Mbo-i-Kamiti, people are going without food for three or four days. That is a very serious matter. Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I support this motion and hope the Government will take this matter seriously in order to help our people."
