"content": "The reason is that we want a law that is going to serve all of us, and which the legislators in this House will be proud to support. We should not be afraid of science or afraid to move forward. The country is struggling for food, and we want to get our scientists not to live in Geneva and elsewhere, but to have the protection of the law and be here in their own country. I hear a lot about the dangers of GMO foods, but we should not be scare mongers. I am particularly embarrassed because the strongest opposition came from a Member of the Government. That, to me, is part of what we call unintended consequences, the comical part of what we do. It raises the temperature of amusement, but hon. Members have given us the opportunity. The Japanese live to over 100 years and they eat a lot of soya beans, which are produced in Brazil as GMOs. We should not worry! We want a law to protect our animals, our food and that is why we have come to this House. At the Committee Stage, we will incorporate everything. I give my undertaking to do all that at the Committee Stage."
