"content": " Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) Since Independence, the Government has settled squatters in settlement schemes as follows:- A total of 106 squatter settlement schemes have been established, covering a total of 81,027.05 hectares. Those schemes have covered 22,395 squatters. The programme is ongoing. Currently, nine farms are under demarcation and survey is still going on. (b) Since the Financial Years 2002/2003 and 2007/2008, a total of Kshs1.955 billion has October 7, 2008 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 2491 been allocated to the Ministry to purchase farms. Eleven farms have been bought at a total cost of Kshs14,890,285. (c) I do lay on the Table the list of the purchased farms as sought by the hon. Member."
