(a) Yes, I am aware of the understaffing situation experienced in primary schools all over July 17, 2008 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 1935 the country which currently have a shortage of over 47,000 teachers. (b) The Government has set aside Kshs1.5 billion for the recruitment of 6,000 extra teachers this 2008/2009 Financial Year. This figure is an addition to another 8,139 teachers who will be recruited to replace those who have left the service due to natural attrition. The 14,139 vacancies will be advertised this week on Sunday."
