    "content": " Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) I am aware of the shortage of teachers in primary schools throughout the country. The current teachers shortage at the primary school level stands at 47,200 as at May, 2007. (b) In the last four years, the Ministry has been replacing teachers who leave the service through natural attrition, resignation and dismissal. In the financial year that has just lapsed, the Ministry received additional funding which enabled us to recruit 4,000 more teachers, bringing the current number of teachers in the country to 239,000, from the previous figure of 235,000."
