"content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, this is a very proud moment for hon. Members and the country at large. For the first time we have a system that works, and a Parliament that is essentially supreme in every sense of the word. The beauty of Parliamentary democracy is that the bulk of its work is done in Committees. We have Committees that are relevant to this issue. We have the authority and the power to summon everybody, including, in my opinion, the Prime Minister and the Vice-President. Let this Committee, first of all, as a Parliamentary Committee, with the authority of Parliament itself, do a very exhaustive work. There is one other issue which Parliament needs to take note of. The Prime Minister of this country is able to defend himself on the Floor of the House. The Minister is able to defend himself on the Floor of the House, and so is the Attorney-General. There are civil servants and other people who do not have that chance or possibility of defending themselves on the Floor of the House. They cannot even go public because of the nature of their positions. My plea to the House, as a tradition and precedent, is that we spare people who do not have the capacity to defend themselves."
