"content": "Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, there was no haste in closing down this factory. As you may be aware, UBF was not owned by the Government. It was owned by certain farmers, mainly white farmers, who were involved in rearing pigs. When it started experiencing problems in the 1970s, certain individuals had taken over its management. Of course, they mismanaged it. By 1987, it became necessary to close it. At that time, as I said, other companies like the Farmers Choice Company and the Nairobi Airport Services, were in the same business. The company that had experienced financial problems and poor management could not stand the competition."
