"content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is worth noting that the taxes being levied were approved by this House. If hon. Members want us to reverse that decision, we can do so by amending the law that was passed here in 1994. We, as a Ministry, have no objection. Excise Duty chargeable on premium petrol is Kshs19.895 per litre. The Road Maintenance Levy chargeable on premium petrol is Kshs9 per litre, which goes toward rehabilitation of our road network. Excise Duty forms part of Government revenue, which is used to fund other projects, including disbursement to the Constituencies Development Fund (CDF). Petroleum Development Levy is only 4 cents per litre. This goes towards funding the exploration exercise, which we are undertaking. In total, the Government levies Kshs29 per litre of petrol. So, the local taxes being levied on petrol are intended for the good of this country."
