The principle of adverse possession is really not a sword. It is a shield. However, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is for these families to now exercise their rights. They need to go to court and seek a declaration that this land should vest on them if, indeed, they can prove that they have been there for more than 18 years without interference. If the hon. Member wants legal advice from me on how he can go about it to protect the rights of his people, I can give it free of charge."
