    "content": "where we have small-holder farms, most of the year the people there depend entirely on what is produced in the Rift Valley Province for their subsistence needs. In Vihiga Constituency, for example, in December last year, a bag of maize was selling at between Kshs1,200 to Kshs1,600. Today, the same bag is going for over Kshs2,500. That is very serious, bearing in mind that the salaries and wages of many Kenyans have not gone up. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, in supporting the Motion, I would like us to put in place greater measures, which can protect Kenyan citizens. Unscrupulous middlemen have taken advantage of the situation and hiked prices. That is why people are experiencing a lot of hunger all over the country. I would like the Ministry to come up with long-term measures to make the sector more viable. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, with those few remarks, I beg to support."
