    "content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, there is usually a Sugar-cane Pricing Committee in place. They have a formula of coming up with the price of sugar-cane per tonne. In September, 2007, there was a Government directive for sugar millers to price cane at Kshs2,500 per tonne. The directive has been fully complied with by the millers, except the Mumias Sugar Company. They are buying cane per tonne at Kshs2,300. We have directed Mumias Sugar Company, through its Board of Directors, to effect the Government directive by increasing their price from Kshs2,300 to Kshs2,500 per tonne."
