    "content": "Yes, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Ministry made an undertaking to supply fertilizer to Kenyan farmers. As you are aware, we have undergone serious crisis in Kenya and in the process, there has been a shortage of fertilizer. The prices of fertilizer have gone up because of several reasons. The first one has been the cost of transportation. The cost of transporting the fertilizer from Mombasa to Kitale has really shot up. Also, the demand for fertilizer has gone up in the world market. At the moment, the cost of fertilizer in the world market has more than doubled, especially DAP, which is used for planting maize and other crops. The biggest demand for fertilizer is in the United States (US) and this has made their prices to go up. They have tripled their demand. They have decided to use maize as bio-fuel, which has led to large acreage of maize in the US. There is also the cost of bringing in the fertilizer from abroad."
