We, as a House, must collectively realise that our vantage position as an economic powerhouse in this region is under threat from our more vibrant, ambitious and organised neighbours. We must be competitive. We must cultivate an environment for a tourist who wants to see a lion to choose to see it in Maasai Mara Game Reserve, and not Serengeti Game Reserve. We must cultivate an environment for a tourist who wants to enjoy the beach to come to Lamu and Malindi, and not go to Tanga or Dar es Salaam. This is competition. We will not compete if we are all breathing venom and hatred against each other. We cannot compete if our energy is misapplied, misdirected and put to bad use, on destructive politics."
