For all the many years some of us have been in this Parliament, when it comes to voting for the Speaker, the guiding principle has been that every hon. Member of Parliament vote with his or her conscience. We vote for somebody who we believe shall conduct the business of this House without fear or favour. That is why the tradition has always been that the election of the Speaker be conducted in a manner completely different from the other issues."
