"content": "Nevertheless, as your Speaker, I want to humbly submit myself to the collective will of the Members and institutional dictates of the House. I promise to be first and foremost, the defender of hon. Members' right to speak their minds freely in this House because they are the full spokesmen of the people of Kenya. I will carry out my duties both in the House and in the larger Kenyan society with decorum, dignity, honesty, diligence and fortitude that will project and propel the image of Parliament to every corner of our beloved country so that our people may hold this House in high esteem. This is their House and during my tenure as Speaker, I will make sure that Parliament remains alert to the needs of the people of Kenya. We must take Parliament to the people who elected it, no matter what it costs to do so."
