"content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, during the recent admission of teachers to teacher- training colleges, it was very clear that, in some places, including mine, which neighbours Mr. Lekuton, very few locals were admitted. It is very necessary to have local teachers to teach lower classes. What is the Government doing to ensure that these remote Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) have teachers admitted to teacher-training colleges? In other words, could the Ministry apply affirmative action in the intake into teachers training colleges, so that we do not have shortages in the future? Teachers from high potential areas may have problems teaching in those remote areas because they are very young people."
