(a) The current inflationary tendencies in the economy are caused by a number of factors amongst them being increased prices of food, wines and spirits, rising costs of cooking gas and charcoal and rising housing costs. (b) In order to contain the inflationary spiral, the Government has put in place a number of measures such as pursuit of prudent monetary policies that support low and stable rates of inflation and curbing of unnecessary Government spending and keeping the domestic borrowing within target."
