"content": " Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) Kenya's total external debt for the period between 31st January, 1963, and 31st December, 2006, amounts to Kshs1,103,149,099,873. The external debt was contracted from a number of sources among them being the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Development Association and Commonwealth Development Corporation. All borrowed funds were deposited into the Consolidated Fund. (b) The country's total debt portfolio as at 31st December, 2006 was Kshs374,063,661,796. The money borrowed was used to fund a number of development projects within the various sectors of the economy. (c) I wish to confirm that the law was complied with in respect of each borrowing."
