    "content": "Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I rise to seek a Ministerial Statement from the Minister for Agriculture regarding a contract entered into between the Kenya Tea Development Agency and Lipton Tea of London. Lipton is a chief buyer of Kenyan tea at Mombasa. It is common knowledge that whenever Lipton does not buy our tea, the prices of the commodity go down. Lipton was given a contract to market Kenyan tea. I would like the Minister to tell us the nature of the contract, the anticipated benefit of the contract, whether the farmers were involved and are aware of that contract, and whether in future the Minister will be in a position to value-add our tea before he can sell it to Lipton. All that Lipton does is to buy our tea, value-add it in Mombasa and then export it, which we can do. Thank you very much."
