"content": "I would like to outline a chronology of events and efforts made so far in a bid to solve the problem facing the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs. I think it is worth noting that its Chair, Mr. Namwamba, at some stage, tendered his resignation. On Monday, 21st February, 2011, seven hon. Members of the Committee gave notice of the intention to move a vote of no confidence on the Chairperson under Standing Order No.175. A meeting of the Committee was scheduled to be held on Tuesday, 29th March, 2011 at 12.00 noon. in Committee Room No.7 within the Main Parliament Buildings. As it is practice, notices of the meeting were delivered to all the Committee Members. That meeting was chaired by the Deputy Speaker and was attended by ten Members of the Committee and four non-Members. The meeting ended without the resolution envisaged under Standing Order No.175. On Wednesday, 27th April, 2011, the Liaison Committee, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Speaker, met and deliberated on the matter. The Liaison Committee called upon the leadership of Parliament to expedite the resolution of the dispute to enable the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs to proceed with its mandate."
