First of all, I never said, and no stretch of imagination would have allowed me to say it, that it is not the policy of the company to cross-check with the bank to confirm whether money is paid. Verification of cheques is a standard procedure that we require. The officers involved never followed that particular procedure. It is for that reason that we have taken the action that we deemed necessary. On the second part of the allegation, it remains just that - an allegation - and it is upon my colleague to prove that the said individuals are linked to any of the organs of power within the Government."
