But for a long time the Nairobi City Council has not maintained houses in Eastleigh and elsewhere in Eastlands. The sewerage system of these houses is bad and the houses are in a poor condition. They were built in the early 1950s. What criteria did the Assistant Minister use to raise the house rents to the current market rates? Was it because of the cost involved in maintaining the houses, or because of the influx of people from other countries who come with money to suppress Kenyans?"
