"content": "Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. The problem of sexual violence is much more difficult to address because of the stigma that it carries. Firstly, most people tend to see it as an issue touching on sex. In many of our traditions sex or speaking about it is seen as a taboo. Rape is seen as shameful and, therefore, not spoken about or reported. So many members of the society discourage individuals from reporting rape cases in fear that their children will miss out marriage prospects or the reputation of the family itself will be affected. Women feel ashamed to admit to their husbands that they have been raped. Nowadays, even men feel ashamed to admit that something has happened to their wives. The stigma of HIV/AIDS has only made this much worse. Mr. Speaker, Sir, there is need to set the record straight. Sexual violence and rape are not about sex."
