"content": "Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the other cause of the high fuel prices was the Arab spring. It started in Algeria, went to Libya, Bahrain, Egypt and Yemen. It is still continuing in some of those countries. As a result, the crude oil prices again rose from 80 dollars per barrel to 120 dollars per barrel. As a result, this increased inflation. It caused fuel spikes in this country, and there were even shortages. This then resulted in panic buying of the dollar, as people tried to protect their positions, because they did not know how much it would be next week, and therefore, this is really what caused the high depreciation of the Kenya Shilling."
