    "content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would like to refer hon. Members to the Press Statement by the Kenya Bankers Association issued on 13th December, 2011, on the above undertaking. Those measures are expected to go a long way to address the current short-term problem of high interest rates. Going forward and with the easing of inflation and firming of the exchange rate, we expect the lending rate to ease significantly in the very near future. Indeed, we have seen interest rates on Government Paper begin to fall in the recent auction on Treasury Bills. We, therefore, expect lending rates to follow suit sooner or later."
