"content": "Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, the third point I want to make is this, it was Parliament’s directive when the Budget was here that austerity measures should be implemented in the Budget. The view that the Minister gave us at that time was that, indeed, they were going to implement Parliament’s directive through the Budget Committee, and that austerity measures would be taken; there should be as much reduction as possible in those areas that are not core to the functions of the departments of Government. But what we have found out from our analysis is that still, contrary to what we had agreed upon, instead of curtailing allocations to items such as domestic and foreign travel, printing, hospitality, office and general supplies, furniture, and the purchase of motor vehicles--- In these Supplementary Estimates, the same items that were supposed to have been cut under the agreed austerity measures between Parliament and the Minister are the ones that which benefitted from the Supplementary Estimates."
