"content": "Madam Temporary Deputy Chairlady, I do recall that when we were doing this the last time, the issue of six months was brought to this very House. That you need six months for political parties to give their nomination rules, for the Registrar of Political Parties and the IEBC and for the members themselves to know the rules under which the nominations will be held so that people do not end up with nomination rules being presented on one day, the nominations are the next day and then people are rigged out through the political parties because of the rules. Six months was very clear for purposes of transparency. The Attorney-General has reduced it to three months. Reducing it any further below three months would compromise the nomination procedure and we will end up with a situation where candidates are all over and nobody would ever know under what rules you would be nominated. So I would rather we stick to the three months and I would like to urge Mr. Ethuro to consider withdrawing his amendment so that we stick with three months then after that we can make progress. Otherwise, we will have very murky nominations."
