    "content": " Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) The Ministry of Energy is not aware of any previous studies conducted in Nyatike area revealing any targets for drilling. However, the Ministry, on behalf of the Government of Kenya, signed the production sharing contract with Tullow Kenya (BV) and Swala Energy Kenya Limited on 16th February, 2012, to carry out oil exploration in the Nyanza trough that is popularly known as Block 12B. Tullow (BV) which is the block operator is already undertaking geotechnical surveys which are essential for ascertaining drillable prospects. On the basis of the production contract, drilling is expected to be undertaken in the year 2015. (b) Under the production sharing contract, the aggregate expenditure on the geotechnical investigations including drilling and exploration well is estimated at a value of US$10.6 million. There is no other commitment so far from any development partner to support oil exploration in the said area."
