"content": "So let us appeal for calm; let everyone work hard and restore peace. Let us not escalate it from ethnic to religious divisions as people start looking at it as an opportunity for them to bring divisions between the Christians and the Islamic faith members; these are people who have always co-existed; they are people who co-exist, but there are some opportunists who might want to start bringing some divisions. That could escalate across the entire country. Mine is to just say pole to all those who have been affected by this, and say that this the time when, as a nation, we need to come together and avoid any escalation of this violence, and more importantly avoid polarizing the country along religious or ethnic lines, because we must coexist. For the people of the Coast, I know they are disturbed but our prayers are with them at this point, and we would like to reassure them – I know the Minister of State for Defence and the Acting Minister of State for Provincial Administration and Internal Security will be responding on behalf of the Government – that we will do whatever is necessary to ensure that calm and peace return to the beautiful Mombasa; we also ask the world that let nobody take a decision to cancel their holiday destination of Mombasa. We assure them that their businesses in Mombasa are safe because the situation will be under control in the next couple of days."
