"content": "Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I also rise to support this important Bill, which is a foundation for the children and this country’s growth and development. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, this country is a member of the World Health Assembly. As such, it is encouraging that our country will control the marketing of milk substitutes. Statistics globally show that in 2008, 32 per cent of the mothers were able to feed their infants. That was a little increment from 2003. At the moment, 32 per cent globally, Kenya being part of this particular statistics, is too low. The problem is compounded because of the marketing and promotion. This is because the marketing and promotion gives the mothers an avenue; that it is possible to find a substitute and not breastfeed. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, we need to encourage our mothers so that they can breastfeed. This will ensure that we have a generation and population that will be healthy, so that we can develop our country through the promotion of breastfeeding. Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir."
