"content": "the House for finally bringing this matter to the Floor and also to the two principals who delayed this matter. I would like to remind the principals that following the constitutional court rejection of their nominee to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), that is a wake-up call that the Constitution is a leading document. It is not just a document that you can ignore. I also want to very briefly say that those who now are slated to go through as members of the Police Service Commission, they must look at the Act carefully to see what their duties are. They include fair procedures for discipline of the force. The Salaries and Remuneration Commission should offer fair remuneration to those serving in the force. They have the duty to ensure that the curricula of the police are adjusted to reflect what the Constitution stipulates. The curriculum should comply with constitutional standards of human rights and training should go to the highest standards of competency. The Board should also know that we will be watching to see how speedily they can start the police reforms which are long overdue. We want to see our police force responding like our Judiciary. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, finally, I want to state that there are two ladies in this Board. Now that the chairperson is a man, it is time the gender rule in the Constitution is followed and the vice-chairperson becomes a woman. I beg to support."
