(a) My Ministry has undertaken numerous measures to upscale farming in arid and semi-arid areas in the North Eastern Province and other pastoral areas. Those measures include distribution of 34 metric tonnes of free assorted high value traditional crop seeds, valued at Kshs4.69 million, to 1,038 farmers during the long rains season for establishment of 833 hectares of crop; excavation of 48 water pans capable of harvesting a total of 550 million cubic metres of water at a cost of Kshs166 million, for domestic and livestock use and limited cropping in various districts within the North Eastern Province. I have given the hon. Member a list of the water pans."
