"content": "I remember one time there was fracas here and James Orengo remembers it very much. People from the Opposition tried to take the mace. His Excellency told us we could not do that. He told us we had to respect the law and the institution. We had to respect the rules of democracy. So, the magnanimity, humility, respect for law, respect for Standing Orders are things that we picked up in those early days. He never referred to any notes when he was contributing in the House. The other one who was exceptionally brilliant like him was the late Onyonka. I can never forget. The late Deputy Speaker, Dr. Bonaya Godana, was on the Chair and His Excellency made a comment while he was contributing from the Floor. There was a direction given by the late Dr. Godana which the Members of Parliament in the Opposition did not take kindly. So there was uproar. He called us and said the Deputy Speaker was doing the right thing. I remember one or two Members from the Democratic Party (DP) and others who were young; he told us that was exactly what the rules said, and we had to respect the Chair. These are the kind of things that I will remember him for all these years; he had wisdom and tried to mentor us in the common room there. Thank you Your Excellency for all the good things you have done in this country. I am sure the nation will remember you."
