(a) I am aware that the country is losing the high agricultural potential land to estate developers due to increased demand for housing occasioned by rising population in urban areas. Whereas my Ministry has powers to make rules on preservation, utilization or development of land, I have no powers of control over sub- division of agricultural land. (b) Yes, I am aware that some of the families that were working in the coffee and tea estates have been turned into squatters. However, the Ministry of Agriculture does not have a programme under which resettlement of squatters can be undertaken."
