    "content": "The President said that he will protect rights and civil liberties. I want to urge him to lead this country in steering police reforms. In the just concluded elections we were peaceful. Where I come from, Kisumu, the police killed people who were not even protesting. There must be police reforms. This Government has a duty to ensure that when people are peaceful or demonstrating, a right which is enshrined in the Constitution, the police can only protect them but not kill them using bullets bought with their own money. It is a shame! Let me further say that the IEBC stands accused and you saw the Supreme Court ruling. This House must come up with mechanisms. As Hon. Speaker said yesterday, these Commissions are “chewing” our money for nothing. In many countries, there is normally one commissioner and a secretariat. I will spearhead a move in this House to have each commission have one commissioner and a secretariat appointed by the Public Service Commission (PSC), so that this country can get value for its money. We can stop appointment of commissioners who award themselves fat salaries while saying Members’ salaries are too much."
