"content": "Hon. Deputy Speaker, secondly, I want to talk about water in our areas. We have forests and water in our areas, but the cost of electricity is very high. We get electricity from water in our areas. For example, where I come from, the forest is so huge. We have a lot of water which is being wasted. It flows to Uganda where they use it to generate electricity. I wonder why Kenya cannot do the same. We only concentrate on the big power generation stations on River Tana yet we can produce electricity in other areas. Kericho can produce electricity to even run a half of the country. For example, we have got factories manufacturing tea. You find that farmers are not getting enough bonuses because of the high cost of electricity yet we can generate electricity and use it in our factories and towns. We do not have street lights in Kericho, Sotik, Litein, Kipkelion and Londiani yet we can produce electricity using the water that just flows to the lake. Hon. Deputy Speaker, again, we find that in Kenya we have a shortage of food yet Egypt, a country that does not receive any substantial rainfall, has got sufficient food. They sell food to us yet we have a lot of water resources in our country. Water is just being wasted. Right now we are crying about floods. We are pumping more money into flood control instead storing that water and using it for irrigation during the dry season. So, we are urging our principals to consider using the rain water for irrigation. I do not think we can succeed in irrigating without tapping the water. I hope that we will tap the water to be able to irrigate the farms. Again, our farmers are hardworking people. For example, milk farmers produce milk but you find that some powdered milk is being imported. When it is---"
