"content": "Hon. Deputy Speaker, I will give you a good example. Safaricom today is the most profitable company in Kenya creating work for shareholders, creating win-win situations in services for customers all across the board, financial communication and everything, creating wealth for the Kenya Government through the taxes, billions and billions that Safaricom pays as well as the dividends that come back to the Government as an owner of a great majority shareholder of Safaricom. This is the model we should move to. We cannot afford to transfer bad ideas, bad financial loads and baggage to the counties that are new young governments. I think the county governments should not even dream of touching these parastatals that have been perennial failures with a ten foot pole. They should stay away from them and let the private market in Kenya figure out what is really competitive and then we here as the National Assembly and other agencies of Government should make policies that support our farmers in the agricultural sectors to be owners of companies that are successful, to get the requisite and relevant subsidies so to speak. This is because a lot of our produce can be competitive if well managed, market oriented and a little Government subsidy and trade protection can help them to move out there or establish themselves and take over."
