"content": "know the kind of life that each of the seven individuals identified in each location was living prior to that exercise. Some of them were people whose sons and daughters were working and, therefore, they could be supported by their children. Some elderly people are very poor, and have absolutely no support from anywhere. So, it is very shameful that we are still talking about this group of people in society, who are neglected. Even when the President addressed this House, he talked about empowerment of only youth and women when our elderly members of society have been neglected. Therefore, I am appealing to the Government to take Article 57 very seriously and take care of the elderly. Some of them die shamefully because they lack very little money with which to buy some painkillers. It is, therefore, time we recommended that the Government takes this issue very seriously. Whenever I go to my constituency, elderly men and women ask me how far I have gone with securing their payments. Therefore, I stand here to support the Motion and ask the Government to take it very seriously. When we reach the age of 60, we will also want to die and be buried with a lot of respect, and not in the way some elderly people died and got buried. Some elderly people live their sunset days very shamefully. Ironically, some of them are people who had very dignified lives during their productive times, but because they can no longer support themselves and their families, they end up living in deplorable conditions and dying shamefully. Therefore, having spelled out to the House the expectations of the elderly people during the referendum on the Constitution, I will not explain much. All we are appealing for is the Government to come up with ways of identifying the truly needy elderly people, who are unable to support themselves in the society, even if it means involving the Provincial Administration again. I want to donate my remaining time to hon. Members who want to talk more about members of the older generation in society, even though I do not think there is more to say about this matter, given that these are people who can neither work nor do anything else that is productive. They only need support from us."
