I rise pursuant to Standing Order 44(2)(c) to request for a Statement from the chairpersons of two Departmental Committees namely Finance, Planning and Trade and Environmental and Natural Resources regarding the mining of gold in Kenya. There are two gold mines in the country namely Karelian Gold Mine Limited in Natiki and Kilimapesa Gold Limited in Lolgorian. The amount of gold produced by those two companies is approximately 50 kilogrammes per year. However, two private companies Sky Hawk International Limited and Ushindi Exports Limited are allegedly exporting 1,200 kilogrammes of gold per month out of the country. Further, according to available documents, those two companies purport to be exporting gold to United Arab Emirates. In their Statements, the chairpersons of the two committees should report to the House on the total amount of gold exported by Ushindi Exports Limited and Sky Hawk International Limited per year. They should indicate the supply and source of gold of those companies from 2005 to now, with receipts showing where they were bought and sold.
