I support the Motion because, throughout the country, children from poor backgrounds are the ones who perform very well in school yet their welfare is not taken care of. Citing my own constituency of Mwatate as an example, about 16 pupils who scored more than 300 marks out of 500 marks in last year’s KCPE did not report to secondary schools until I intervened. The parents of those who reported to school had paid only a small percentage of the fees. So, even before the first term ended, some of them were sent away from school. Therefore, this initiative augers very well for our country as it will facilitate the assistance of such needy students. With those remarks, I beg to support the Motion and applaud hon. Gatobu for bringing it to the House."
